Weight machines squeak along to the sound of upbeat music as both students and teachers work out along each other. It’s Fit for the Future, a club that’s in its second year, providing students and teachers the opportunity to exercise for an hour after school four days a week. The club is the brainchild of Dee Fowler, aerobics and physical education teacher at the main campus. Meeting Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the freshman campus weight room and cardio room, Fit for the Future offers the chance to get stronger, lose weight, or just stay in shape. Fowler’s... Read more

Oscar WildeGenevieve Schatz performs at ES Jungle in Broad Ripple on February 13th. Schatz, 22, is a founding member of Company of Thieves. I, Miss Nondescript Indie Rock Fan #846,  will be the first to admit that many (if not most) of today’s budding indie artists sound unsettlingly similar.  This particular find deserves a shot, though.  I swear… this one’s different. Company of Thieves hails from Chicago and has just recently gained widespread recognition.  In early January, the band’s single “Oscar Wilde” was featured as an iTunes Discovery Download.  Later last month, the... Read more

Concert Tips

1. Well, make sure you have the tickets, that would actually get you in the concert. Above all, be prepared.  This includes the proper attire and most importantly, comfortable shoes. 2. Always have a buddy system, you never know who you will run in to. It is best to keep a friend close at all times. 3. Don’t bring anything that is important to you.  Just leave all belongings at home except for the tickets and some cash to buy a concert t-shirt afterwards.   4. Make sure you drink a lot of water and eat a good hearty meal before. This will keep your energy high for the duration of the... Read more

What’s a kid to do when their out-turned pockets hold no more than gum wrappers?  Get a job, of course.  But the Bureau of Labor Statistics recently revealed that nearly 20 percent of high school-ages students who wanted jobs couldn’t find them.  For those lucky few who do have jobs, maintaining them may prove to be difficult as their employers suffer from the economic downturn. Junior Chris Cassidy is getting desperate.  Though he has held a job as a waiter for nearly two and a half years, he has been forced to look for a second job, sell his beloved Jeep, and take a rain check on guitar... Read more

Alas, the bagel line is open

Don’t fret!  The bagel line is back and has more to add to the cafeteria.  The reason for the lack of bagel line is a shortage of staff.  The cafeteria workers were sick and unable to do their bagel line duties; therefore, the bagel line was sadly closed for the past month. However,  as of Feb 4, the bagel line is reopened and is now the “grab and go” line.  The bagels and cheese are still located in the specialty line. According to cafeteria worker Cathy Ridings, more items will be added to the grab and go line as time goes on.  As of now, to promote their new products,... Read more
