While the mention of charity events may conjure up visions of slapping gray food on plates in a hairnetted huff, Empty Bowls offered students a night of food with family and friends. In the spirit of the approaching holiday season, National Art Honor Society sponsored the Empty Bowls program on Monday, Nov. 9. The event took place in the main campus sophomore cafeteria for an hour and a half beginning at 6 p.m. National Art Honor Society members spent weeks preparing. “It’s a big thing for us,” sophomore Ainee Jeong said. Attendees paid $10 for a ticket, which entitled them to a hot... Read more

Polo team sparks intrigue

Rumors of an underground Polo Team have circulated recently through the halls of the school.  Everyone seems to ask, over and over again – water polo? Horseback-riding polo?  Marco Polo?  The answer to all is:  none of the above. So many questions are posed, and yet the answer is the simplest one available, the most obvious one.  Members don’t play water sports or have an odd fascination with deceased explorers. They just wear polo shirts. “We don’t play it, we wear it,” senior Patrick Stroud said.  “It’s mainly a joke, really.” Another conflict is whether they are... Read more

New Moon won’t disappoint

The second movie installment of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series, New Moon landed the third biggest domestic opening weekend, earning $142,839,137. New Moon is the second installment of the insanely popular Twilight saga. Like any other dedicated fan, I anxiously went into the theater sporting my T-Shirt that features a picture of the Twilight character Jasper (one of my personal favorites). My friend had already pre-ordered our tickets, something we didn’t end up regretting. We went to a matinee, so I wasn’t expecting too much of a crowd.  I was shocked at how crowded the... Read more

Sainthood tolerable, not preferable

Knowing nothing more about Tegan and Sara than what the NOFX song “Creeping Out Sara” provides, I was a little scared about what I was getting myself into after being assigned this review. My musical taste is pretty much confined to bands labeled as “alternative”: The Cab, Every Avenue, Forever the Sickest Kids. On iTunes, Tegan and Sarah’s newest album Sainthood is under the “alternative” category. This made me feel slightly more at ease…until I pressed play. I can’t say that I was particularly surprised at what came out of the speakers. In fact, it was probably just... Read more

Noblesville High School is a school of opportunities. A single student could take five AP classes, participate in a sport, and join a club. There is always something going on. Whether it be a football game, cross country meet, rehearsals for the school play, an orchestra concert, or any of the other endless activities available. “I’m taking a lot of AP classes this year.” junior Alisha Hobbs said “But I would say Spanish IV is hard because I’m bad at Spanish.” Hobbs has added “I feel like people sometimes expect too much of themselves, and they feel other... Read more

Ear to the Ground: The Swell Season

The Swell Season's third album, Strict Joy, was released in the United States on Oct. 27. When Once hit the big screen in 2007, the world of independent music fell in love with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. Hansard, a middle-age member of Irish band The Frames, and Irglova, a 19-year-old unknown from the Czech Republic, were roped into doing the film by a mutual friend. Having worked together in the past, they gladly agreed to play the roles of a Dublin busker and an immigrant flower seller who has a knack for playing piano. Long story short, they fall undeniably in love both on-screen... Read more

Twilight fan mania

I never thought I would ever be interested in a story based off of fantasy characters like vampires and werewolves. That’s just not the kind of novels I’m into. But after I read the impressive, captivating words printed and bounded in the novels written by Stephanie Meyer, I thought my life would never be the same. I was so compelled by her stories and I truly felt like I was living through each sentence I read. Although the books were about 500 pages each, I didn’t dare put them down. I lingered off of every word craving the next and finished all four books in less than a week. When... Read more
