To most, the mention of frisbees conjures up memories of lazy afternoons at the park. For some, however, frisbee is a team sport unlike any other.”It’s not intensely competitive. It’s just fun,” sophomore Lauren Snyder said. She is one of two girls on the team of 22 competitors. “Over the summer I realized I liked frisbee while playing with my friends.”

“It’s really fun and takes a lot of team work,” sophomore Sarah Medlin said. “I play ultimate frisbee at camps I go to and I saw there was a team so I decided to try.”

For others, getting started was a bit different. Some of the teammates such as junior and club captain Ryan Ferguson began playing as a way to kill time after participating in other sports. “Cross country has a history of playing frisbee. After practice at cross country, we’ll all play ultimate.”

Currently, the Noblesville Ultimate Club is preparing for a tournament at the end of the month.

“Every Sunday we have a practice,” junior Jake Boxberger said.

According to Ferguson, typical practices consist of scrimmaging off and playing the game.

“Recently, we’ve also just done some throwing back and forth and stuff. It’s pretty casual,” Snyder said.

In a few weeks, the team will take part in an ultimate frisbee tournament. Snyder hopes for the chance to compete against teams that keep the experience positive. “When you play a team that has good team spirit, you just have fun with it,” she said.

Others are looking forward to the prospect of winning. “My favorite part is making a catch in the endzone,” said Boxberger.

No matter what their wishes, the teammates will continue practices in order to ready themselves for the coming tournament.
